anotherhookerblog-deactivated20 asked: mate when I was 19 I changed my surname to Ayn. I mean I needed to change my surname because my biofam sux and I wanted something Russian to honour the only member of my biofam I liked but I mean, did I have to do that? At least it wasn't a tattoo.
just gave someone my bank card and he was all “is your last name really radish?” and i was all “uh yeah” and he was all “that’s weird” and i shrugged and he paused and then was all “i mean i don’t mean to offend you but—you’re not offended are you?” And i shook my head and he gave me back my bank card and was all “have a...

radtransfem:
After seeing bidyke’s remix of sanctimonioussilentagony’s list, I thought I’d sketch out the beginnings of one for transsexual folk. Improvements welcome:
Answer any and all questions about my body and my medical treatment no matter how invasive
Answer questions about my partner’s sexuality

today's #1 reason i love my public library
i have been going through all the books in the teen room putting them back in order the last few days since the teen room has gotten completely out of control and disorganized recently (some of the pages got sick and they usually shelf read a little every day, but they got so behind on shelving that that’s been their priority the last few weeks)
one of the great things about going through...

my book club!
i run this book club for teen boys (i would totally let girls come if they wanted to, but it’s called “guys read” and it’s supposed to be books that are geared towards teen boys) at the library and these teens are amazing.
so much amazingness out of this group, but my favourite part was when a couple of the kids were talking about how they think this one...

check out my new article on prettyqueer—it’s all about how trans guys should really remember to give all the credit to the rad trans women we learned everything from when we talk about transmisogyny and how basically folx should just listen to trans women in the first place

this was the best part of the oscars last night (actually maybe it was the only part i really cared about, though it was really fun to watch with my friends). i love christopher guest.
also, bob balaban is forever my favourite. he always plays really small kind of dry characters, but his reactions to the other characters make the films. he has been a recurring character in my dreams for years...

wolfe-bites said: Michigan seems to be a lot like Ontario, outside of Toronto, in its attitudes to things. What is a juggalos?
i’ve only ever really spent time in windsor and toronto, but never anywhere else in ontario. i met a ton of people from all over ontario at the...

today's #1 reason i love my public library
the fact that they have free, unmonitored internet access that allows queer & trans teens to look at totally revolting queer stuff without their parents finding out!

just stopped at this intersection right before my house and waved at this guy whose always there who i sometimes give change to and then he stood up as a car pulled up next to me. i look over and it’s a car full of guys in creepy clown makeup (i guess they were juggalos maybe? there are supposed to be a lot of them in michigan, right? but i’ve never seen one before) they all had open...

i started listening to “cemetery gates” by the smiths while i was running and have just been listening to it on repeat since.
…so maybe this is indicative of the fact that i’m a huge librarian nerd, but i hear this song and i think it’s about the importance of proper citation. and an awkwardly fun date at the cemetery, but, like, the whole point (and fun) of the...

Odofemi: Xtra Exposed →
ftmark:
This afternoon I happened to be sitting on a train on the way home from a conference when I overheard a conversation. My friends and I tried to ignore the people who were talking loudly, until we heard one of them nearly shout, “We’re not transphobic!” A silence fell over me and my…

odofemi asked: I have the entire Cremaster cycle on my external harddrive. I was watching it with my ex a lot, but we never ended up finishing it. I need to get around to finishing watching it. We should watch some of it next time we're in the same city. :)

confessions of a fangirl: “i really wish to meet... →
some girl stole my diary from grade 7 and posted it on the internet. that’s the only explanation for how she was able to reach into my 13 year old soul and describe my teenage love for hanson in such detail. also, this essay is really good. but mostly, hanson:
“I think I am officially obsessed. Obsessed over the Hanson brothers. Every other minute is concentrated on them, their...

super hero comix! i recently got hooked into runaways at the suggestion of a friend but had to wait till the weekend was over to get the next volume—i have it now and am so excited to read it. how did i somehow miss that part of childhood where other kids started reading comix? like, this should have been happening 20+ years ago.

a few weeks ago, i send an email to the hennepin county attorney and assistant attorney asking them to drop the charges against cece mcdonald and they just sent me a response today. it’s not like i thought they were going to get my email and say, “oh yeah, he’s right,” and change their minds like that, but i hoped that recieving lots of thoughtful calls and emails from...

one of my coworkers just called me “she” (and “mrs. plum” cause apparently she and i are both “mrs. plum” because we’re both wearing purple sweaters) in front of a bunch of other coworkers (and did not even catch herself) and it sent me into a mini panic. this happens with patrons occasionally, but has never happened with a coworker at either of my...
